Alex Lyon keeps Red Wings fans grounded with latest comments
There's still work to be done!

While the Detroit Red Wings are on a tear right now, it's important for them not to get too far ahead of themselves, especially considering what happened last season.
Fans will cringe when reflecting on what took place exactly a calendar year ago, as the Red Wings were hammered twice in 48 hours by the division rival Ottawa Senators, essentially ending any realistic chance they had to qualify for the postseason. Shortly afterward, GM Steve Yzerman began selling off assets that included Tyler Bertuzzi, Oskar Sundqvist, Jakub Vrana, and Filip Hronek.
It's safe to say that things are different this time around, as the Red Wings have some of the deepest depth in the NHL that has enabled them to jump from 24th overall in League scoring last season to 4th overall this season, and they also lead the League in number of players who have reached double digits in goals scored.
Right now, they currently hold the 1st Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, and are only two points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for 3rd in the division. And while it appears as though the playoff drought could finally end this spring, nothing has been guaranteed yet. And that's the message that goaltender Alex Lyon preached today following practice.
"We just continue to have to work and live day-by-day," Lyon explained. "That being process-oriented and kind of taking each day as it comes and each game as it comes is kind of how we approached it so far. It's important we don't get too far ahead of ourselves. We still got a lot of games left."
Naturally, there are several players on the Red Wings who have not sniffed the playoffs that are itching for their first experience.
"We have a lot of ultra-competitive guys in the room and that goes a long way," Lyon continued. "There's a feeling that we want to continue this moving forward. We want to be competitive and we have to focus on the present and that's what is driving us."
