Alex Edler signs with the Canucks to end his career
How fitting! The team's all-time leader in points by a defensman!
This just in, defenseman Alex Edler has signed a one day contract to retire as a member of the Vancouver Canucks. Additionally, the team has announced that they will honor Elder's career with a special pre-game ceremony on Friday, Oct 11th.
“I am humbled and honoured to officially end my career and retire as a member of the Vancouver Canucks,” said Edler. “I consider myself lucky to have started my career with such an outstanding organization, in this amazing city, with the best fans in the NHL. Finishing my NHL career where it all began is something very special for myself and my family.”
The 38 year old Swede is the Canucks' all-time leader in points amongst defenseman with 409 points in 925 career games with the team. He finished up his career with two seasons playing for the Los Angeles Kings from 2021 - 2023.
Read below for our earlier Canucks report on forward Dakota Joshua.
The Vancouver Canucks have released a statement on forward Dakota Joshua, announcing that he has undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from one of his testicles.
As a result, Joshua will miss the opening of Canucks training camp later this week, but will provide an update on his status as training camp progresses.
The full statement from Joshua and the Canucks:
Joshua just recently signed a four year contract worth $3.25 million per season after a breakout campaign in 2023-24. The 28 year old native of Dearborn, MI scored a career high 18 goals and 32 points in 63 games with the Canucks last season. He was the perfect compliment to linemates Teddy Blueger and Conor Garland, giving the Canucks some snarl and offensive ability on their 3rd line. Joshua was poised to do big things for the Canucks this upcoming season, here's hoping that this procedure and the recovery doesn't set him too far back
The important thing though, of course, is that Joshua is healthy and cancer free.
