It was a major splash for the Detroit Red Wings, who acquired two-time 40 goal scoring forward Alex DeBrincat, bringing a native son home. The trade was completed in mid-July with the Ottawa Senators as Dominik Kubalik, Donovan Sebrango, and a conditional 1st round pick and a 4th round pick in 2024 moved to the Canadian capital city.
He'll be wearing jersey No. 93, meaning that he will be the 1st Red Wings player to do so since Johan Franzen; his career was unfortunately cut short due to concussion issues. Red Wings fans will be hoping that DeBrincat will be able to soon emulate Franzen's absolutely clutch playoff performances that they witnessed over the years.
And for DeBrincat, he's aiming to return to the 40-goal plateau that he reached twice while a member of the Chicago Blackhawks.
“I like to get in the mix in the corners, like to get pucks back,” DeBrincat said. “Last year I didn’t have the best two-way game. In past years I’ve been a pretty good two-way forward in getting back in the D-zone and creating offense that way and that’s what I got to get back to. I think that creates so many more chances for me and my linemates. That’s something I’m going to be working for.”
“I’ve got to focus a little more on bearing down when I get my chances,” DeBrincat said. “Last year I gave up a lot of chances, maybe got lazy on it or whatever, hit a post or stuff like that. I’m pretty confident getting back to that form and we have a lot of great players here to play with. I’m just trying to find the space out here and they’ll give me the puck.”
For his new teammate and fellow Michigan native Dylan Larkin, his hockey sense is underrated.
“His hockey sense is very underrated,” Larkin said. “His puck skills, his ability to catch the worst passes and turn it into a great shot, those are things I know he has and I’ve see it on the ice the past couple of weeks skating with him in Detroit. Saw it (at camp).”
