Aaron Ekblad suspended by NHL Player Safety for head shot on Brandon Hagel
The Panthers' defenseman will watch from the press box.
UPDATE: NHL Player Safety has suspended Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad two games for his head shot on Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brandon Hagel.
This just in, NHL Player Safety has scheduled a hearing with Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad following his illegal check to the head of Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brandon Hagel last night.
And here is the hit in question:
Hagel did not return to action.
Ekblad, of course, recently served a massive 20 game suspension for using banned performance enhancing drugs. Obviously his previous suspension had nothing to do with the nature of last night's incident, but it's worth noting that NHL Player Safety does take prior infractions into account when determining penalties.
