Zach Aston-Reese finds a new team 2 days before the season.
Zach Aston-Reese has found a new team despite being released from his professional tryout offer.
Zach Aston-Reese has defied the odds.
In spite of the fact that he was released from a professional tryout offer by the Carolina Hurricanes just one day ago, the veteran National Hockey League forward has managed to secure himself an NHL contract prior to the start of the regular season.
On Sunday, the Detroit Red Wings officially announced that they had signed Aston-Reese to a one year, two-way, contract for the 2023-24 season. Although the Red Wings did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, Aston-Reese will earn the league minimum of $775,000 while playing at the NHL level this season.
A valuable depth player, Aston Reese has played for 3 NHL teams throughout his career, the Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks and most recently the Toronto Maple Leafs. Aston-Reese is coming off a season in which he appeared in 77 games for the Maple Leafs, scoring 10 goals and adding 4 assists for a total of 14 points.
Aston-Reese is expected to be placed on waivers later today as per NHL insider Frank Seravalli, so we will have to wait and see if he ends up being claimed by any other team around the league.
