No way.......right?

Imagine the absolute feeling of your heart sinking at the thought of one of your favorite athletes from your favorite team suddenly jumping ship and joining a bitter rival.

That's the feeling of dread that will go through the minds of Toronto Maple Leafs fans when they read this latest crazy trade proposal involving Swedish forward William Nylander, who scored a career-high 40 goals this past season for the Leafs but is reportedly no closer to signing a new contract with the team before he's eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

What if Nylander were traded to the bitter rival Montreal Canadiens, who are not only division rivals but also historic Original 6 rivals? Take a look at this proposal that recently went viral and garnered plenty of feedback from fans of both historic franchises.

His full proposal that he floated on Twitter is as follows:

To TOR:
Mike Matheson
Riley Kidney
Jordan Harris
2nd 2025

To MTL:
William Nylander

The hypothetical deal wouldn't exactly be a complete loss for the Leafs, as Matheson has proven himself to be a reliable blue liner in the NHL, while Kidney recently posted 65 points in just 29 games played for the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Additionally, Harris is only 22 and is coming off his first full NHL season with the Habs.

With it beginning to look more and more like Nylander could be on his way out of Toronto, would this be a prudent move for new Leafs GM Brad Treliving to at least acquire some potentially high-end assets for Nylander rather than risk losing him for nothing on the open market next summer - even if it is to a bitter foe like Montreal?
