NHL fans are still shocked by the news that rocked the hockey world on Thursday when it was confirmed by Rogers Sportsnet that host Jeff Marek no longer works for the company. The fanbase quickly launched their own investigation on what might have taken place with just a few details available to them.

Marek hasn’t tweeted since day one of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft and did not appear on his radio show nor host the 32 Thoughts podcast all while the NHL free agency kicked off with many signings on opening day. He was and still is radio silent.

A spokesperson for Rogers Sportsnet said they don’t share details on individual employee matters, but that hasn’t stop fans from speculating what might have happened, while others dream of a possible announcement that Marek has moved on to another broadcaster, maybe TSN, so they can still listen to the talented host.

One of the last detail given by his co-host and insider Elliotte Friedman came the day after the Draft when he hosted a post-draft podcast solo and referenced Marek leaving on a red eye. There was supposed to be a podcast after July 1 to review the state of play after the opening of free agency but obviously they never did as that show was reportedly cancelled.

No one around Marek is commenting, with several sources declining to comment on the situation, but here are some speculations shared by fans, with many responding that we should all wait to get the details to put blame on why Marek isn’t with Sportsnet anymore.

What do you think happened?
