Wife of Bruins' Milan Lucic files for divorce

It was a shocking story earlier this season, and now the latest development has been released. 

Back in November, Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic, who was playing in his second tenure with the team after returning as a free-agent to the team he began his NHL career with, was arrested following a reported incident of domestic violence against his wife. 

And now, Brittany Lucic has filed for divorce and cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason, per TMZ. 

According to authorities, it was revealed that Lucic was under the impression that his cell phone had gone missing. Allegedly, he suspected his wife of hiding it, leading to a heated confrontation during which Lucic, in his agitation, demanded to know the phone's location while attempting to choke her. 

According to the original report via The Boston Globe, the following events took place: 

“She stated that she attempted to walk away from her husband and stated that her husband grabbed her by the hair and pulled her backwards,’' police wrote. “She stated that in doing so, the suspect stated to her that she was not going anywhere.”

Police wrote that an officer “observed redness on the victim’s chest area and asked the victim if the suspect attempted to strangle her during the incident. She stated he did not,” police wrote. “She also stated that the suspect was consuming alcohol.”

“He appeared intoxicated when he answered the door,’' police wrote. “He stated to officers nothing happened and did not provide an explanation.”

Lucic hasn't played for the Bruins since the incident. He had been playing on a one year, $1 million contract that included up to half a million dollars worth of performance bonuses, and had registered a pair of assists in the four games that he played in this season. 

In 1,177 games with the Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, Lucic has racked up 233 goals, 353 assists, and 1301 PIM. He was also a key member of the 2011 Stanley Cup-winning Bruins squad.
