Weegar/Sutter give a brutally honest evaluation of the Flames' performance.

It was just a typical regular season game on the schedule for the Calgary Flames, but I suspect for many of their loyal fans it may have been a little bit more. The Flames traveled to Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio on Friday night where they faced off against former Calgary Flames star Johnny Gaudreau.

No doubt many of the Flames loyalists were hoping to see the Flames put on an inspired performance after Gaudreau opted to leave the team as a free agent last summer, but instead the Flames came out and offered up quite the opposite. The team looked uninspired throughout 60 minutes after which they would eventually fall by a score of 3-1 and it was clear following the game that there were a few unhappy faces in the Flames locker room.

Flames defenseman MacKenzie Weegar was especially hard on himself, calling out the poor effort he had during the contest, although he used slightly more colorful language.

“I’ll take full responsibility on that tough play in the second period and we got chasing for the rest of the game,” said a noticeably frustrated Weegar. “Just a s***ty effort from myself.”

While Weegar was hard on himself, Flames head coach Darryl Sutter had plenty of venom for the rest of the Flames roster. Prior to the game several members of the roster, and even some members of the equipment staff, were invited over to Johnny Gaudreau's home for dinner and Sutter seemed to harp on this fact following the loss.

"We had some guys came for a visit, not to try to win the hockey game," said Sutter. "Very disappointing.”

To make matters worse this was only the first of a tough back to back for the Flames who had to hop on a plane immediately following the loss ahead of their next game which will be tonight in Toronto when they face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
