It's always one of the most exciting nights of the year, but tomorrow night will be slightly different thanks to an uncooperative Mother Nature.
The Detroit Red Wings host the Tampa Bay Lightning in their home opener at Little Caesars Arena, which has always been preceded by a special red carpet walk in front of the venue through the Chevrolet Plaza. It's been a wonderful opportunity for fans to get a true Hollywood-style experience complete with autograph and photo opportunities. But thanks to expected heavy rain tomorrow night, fans will have to wait until next season's home opener to do so.
The following statement was released on X (formerly Twitter):
"Due to a weather forecast of heavy rain across metro Detroit, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Hockeytown Red Carpet Walk in the Chevrolet Plaza and Budweiser Biergarten prior to Saturday’s home opener.
All four restaurants will open at 3:00 p.m., and doors to Little Caesars Arena will open for ticketed fans at 5:00 p.m. Face painters, entertainment and photo opportunities will be available inside the Via concourse once doors are open.
A special Opening Show will begin in the arena bowl at approximately 6:30 p.m. ahead of the 7:00 p.m. puck drop, so ticketed fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 6:20 p.m. All fans in attendance will receive an Opening Night rally towel.
Thank you for your understanding. Let’s Go Red Wings!"
