The greatest player in NHL history, Wayne Gretzky, is dealing with a lot more than captain of the Washington Capitals, Alex Ovechkin, chasing his goal scoring record. Over the weekend, it was revealed by the New York Post that Gretzky is at the center of a multi-million dollar lawsuit as he is reportedly suing former business partner Veera Mahajan for filing an allegedly meritless lawsuit against him in 2022.

From what the Post reports, Mahajan invested in a weight loss gum known as ‘OMG’, which was supposed to curb appetite and help users lose weight. Mahajan sued Gretzky for unspecified damages and accused him of falsehoods about losing weight. Her lawsuit stated that Gretzky lied about losing 35 pounds after using the gum, and said that he even later admitted to lying and that it led to the end of the company. Gretzky’s wife Janet was a spokesperson for ‘OMG’.

Mahajan reportedly filed to dismiss the case last year and Gretzky claims she had to fold because the lawsuit was frivolous to begin with. He contended he was certainly not the reason the business failed and is now alleging Mahajan only filed the case because she assumed Gretzky would settle “for millions in order to avoid potential negative publicity.”

This has led to Gretzky suing Mahajan “for malicious prosecution and seeking unspecified damages.”

Gretzky and his wife Janet have never publicly commented on any of the courtroom quarrels as the Great One keeps focusing on his job as hockey analyst while he keeps an eye on Ovechkin, who is now seven goals away from tying Gretzky’s all-time record of 894 NHL goals.
