The Penguins waived him yesterday.

Lost in the shuffle of yesterday's major story of the Chicago Blackhawks placing forward Corey Perry on waivers for the purposes of terminating his contract was the fact that the Pittsburgh Penguins decided to part ways with a player of their own.
Defenseman Will Butcher was placed on waivers alongside Perry, and just like the troubled veteran forward who has now had his contract officially terminated by Chicago, Butcher went unclaimed.
After signing with the Penguins in the offseason, an injury kept him out of action in training camp and for the entire preseason schedule.
