The Detroit Red Wings are making the most of their goaltending situation, as they're relying on the tandem of Alex Lyon and James Reimer thanks to the injury to Ville Husso.

And it was during last night's game against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center that Lyon came through with arguably the save of the season. Sharks forward Mike Hoffman was able to get around defenseman Olli Maatta and break in alone on Lyon, and seemed to have him beat by pulling off the infamous "Forsberg" move.

However, the puck didn't enter the net thanks to being stopped literally by the skate blade of Lyon in what was truly a remarkable save:

For Lyon, it was his third straight start between the pipes for Detroit, who were able to pick up an extremely key two points in order to keep pace in the congested Atlantic Division playoff race.

"It's huge, huge," Lyon said of the victory. “I think we’re fighting for our lives. Every point is massive right now. Huge victory for us on the road. They played really hard tonight and I’m just super happy.”

And the fans certainly appreciated his efforts:

"I feel like I'm still building," Lyon said. "It wasn't perfect by any means but you're never going to apologize for a win. That's how I operate and I move on and try to be crisper.

"Every goalie wants to play every night. I enjoy that and I like the workload. I feel like I'm connecting more and more with the defensemen every game. We're getting on the same page."
