UPDATE: The Bruins have now tied the game at 3!
Editor's Note: This is an update to our earlier published report below.
The Vegas Golden Knights are in head coach Bruce Cassidy's old stomping grounds this evening, taking on the Boston Bruins at TD Garden in Boston. Cassidy received a nice homecoming from the Bruins faithful, getting some cheers from the crowd after a video segment on the big board.
And... wouldn't you know it... Cassidy's Golden Knights came out firing for their coach and currently sit 3-0 up on the Bruins who are at risk of dropping their first home game of the season. Without stating the obvious, things are going well the Knights but it didn't look like things might fall that way earlier today. That's because the team announced that superstar forward Jack Eichel is out of the lineup day to day with a lower body injury and that defenseman Alex Pietrangelo remains unavailable due to personal reasons.
From Vegas' PR team:
We can only speculate on Pietrangelo's status, which isn't fair so we'll leave that alone for now.
As for Eichel, any injury with him has to be cause for concern. Obviously since this is a lower body injury it's not related to his offseason neck surgery, but the guy has been so banged up at different points of his NHL career that you have to be concerned when he goes down with an injury. It's also not lost on me that the Golden Knights absolutely went off the rails last season when they ran into injury issues. If Eichel and/or Pietrangelo remain out of the lineup for any significant amount of time, you have to be worried as a Vegas fan.
In the meantime though, they're beating up on the best team in the NHL and everything is rosy as can be. Stay tuned.
