Up to 12 candidates emerge in Penguins' GM job search

For the first time in 17 years, the Pittsburgh Penguins missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and there were immediate ramifications for several franchise executives. 

It was just after the regular season ended that the team elected to completely clean out their front office, terminating general manager Ron Hextall, assistant general manager Chris Pryor, and president of hockey operations Brian Burke. The search is now on for their replacements and according to a recently released report,t it sounds as though they're beginning to narrow down their choices. 

According to Pierre LeBrun: 

"My understanding of the Penguins GM search process: they have started to reach out/ask permission on candidates. They plan on speaking to 10-12 candidates via Zoom in the first wave. Then cut it down to a short list of candidates in 2nd wave which will be in-person interviews."

The Penguins have been suggested as having interest in both former Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin, as well as current Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas. We'll keep our eyes peeled for who they decide to interview.
