Tyler Bertuzzi already missing from Leafs practice

The scrappy forward was not on the ice.

One of the main question marks surrounding scrappy and goal scoring forward Tyler Bertuzzi is his durability and proneness to suffer injuries thanks to his playing style.

As you may remember, he was absent from the Detroit Red Wings lineup for a majority of last season prior to being dealt to the Boston Bruins after breaking both of his hands in separate shot blocking incidents. There was also word that Detroit general manager Steve Yzerman wasn't willing to give Bertuzzi a long-term deal owing to those same concerns.

He settled for a one-year deal with the Leafs after coming through as one of the most valuable Bruins forwards in their stunning seven game playoff loss last spring to the Florida Panthers. And he's already absent from Leafs practice just three games into the season, though the team is listing it as a "maintenance day".

The good news is that head coach Sheldon Keefe expects Bertuzzi to be able to suit up and face the Florida Panthers in tomorrow's game:

Regardless, this probably won't do much to alleviate the concerns of Leafs fans who are hoping to see Bertuzzi suit up for a majority of their season.
