Two more players granted indefinite leave of absences amidst WJC investigation

On Wednesday, the New Jersey Devils announced that forward Michael McLeod and defenseman Cal Foote have both been granted indefinite leave of absences.

Both were members of the 2018 WJC Team Canada.

This comes just a few hours after Ottawa Senators reserve list player Alex Formenton is said be to returning to Canada, according to Swiss club HC Ambri-Piotta, and has been granted an indefinite leave of absence from the team. He too was a member of the 2018 Team Canada WJC team, though he has not played in the NHL since 2022.

Links were quickly made with Philadelphia Flyers goalie Carter Hart, who was a member of the 2018 WJC Team Canada. The Flyers announced on Tuesday that Hart had left the team for personal reasons. Hart has no timetable for his return. This came just days after the Calgary Flames announced that Dillion Dube was stepping away from the game to focus on his mental health. He too was a member of the 2018 roster for Team Canada.

This sounds like all five players, that were reportedly told to surrender to London Police, have been identified. 

London Police reopened their investigation in 2022, leading to the pending charges for five players on Wednesday.

McLeod has collected 10 goals and 19 points in 45 games this season. He was selected 22nd overall in the 2016 draft by the Devils, and has 29 goals and 85 points in 287 career games.

Foote has just one assist in four games with the Devils this season.
