TSN suggests absolutely ridiculous solution in net for Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs are still searching for answers after yet another bitterly disappointing postseason setback that has now seen their playoff victory drought extend to 18 years of being unable to advance past Round 1. 

And while team president Brendan Shanahan announced last month that both general manager Kyle Dubas and head coach Sheldon Keefe would be returning, there still stands a chance that there could be turnover as far as players on the roster are concerned. One player who is set to become an unrestricted free-agent is goaltender Jack Campbell, who set personal bests this past season with 31 wins while making a career-high 47 stars in net. 

Campbell recorded a 31-9-6 record with Toronto this season, earning his first All-Star appearance. However, his stats began to dip in the second half of the season as the Leafs as a whole struggled defensively. And while he performed as well as anyone could reasonably have hoped for (aside from Game 4 in Tampa) in net in the postseason, are the Leafs prepared to pony up a hefty raise from the $1.6 million that he earned this year? 

While that remains to officially be worked out, there has been one absolutely ridiculous possibility thrown out for Dubas to consider by TSN's OverDrive. Hosts Bryan Hayes, Jeff O’Neill, and Jamie McLennan were joined on the phone by TSN's Chris Johnston, who stated the plain but uncomfortable fact that Toronto's goaltending hasn't been good enough to get the job done. It wasn't long before the former goalie known as "Noodles" opined that the Leafs consider Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky if he were to be made available in a trade by the Florida Panthers. 

"I read today that Bobrovsky is available and might be on the market at a discount, is that someone you'd sniff on?" asked McLennan.

"I'll sniff all day on that," responded O'Neill.

"If he's a $5 or $6 million dollar goaltender, are you in on Bobnrovsky?"

"I'm in and I'll join the goaltending team and I'll work with you Noodles, and we'll work with him and he'll be dialed in on the season," O'Neill said.

If the Panthers were ultimately able to unload Bobrovsky and his hefty contract, they'd certainly have to retain at least half of his $10 million salary. Would Dubas be nuts to consider this option?
