ITraining camps are underway and the Anaheim Ducks have to do without forward Trevor Zegras, who is one restricted free agents who remain unsigned, along with Ducks teammate Jamie Drysdale. Recent reports have emerged that both camps are willing to agree on a three-year deal bridge term, but still have a sizeable gap to fill in contract talks…
According to CapFriendly, the Ducks currently have $16.6 million in cap space with 22 players under contract for the upcoming season, but that apparently did not stop GM Pat Verbeek to lowball Zegras. Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports mentioned how the Ducks had only offer Zegras in the $3-4 million AAV range.
Zegras himself appears to have sent a message on Thursday night to his team when he changed his Instagram profile picture from him in a Ducks jersey to this image of himself putting on a blindfold mask.
The 22-year-old star forward completed his three-year, entry-level contract last season, recording a career-high 23 goals and 65 points in 81 games. He was selected ninth overall by Anaheim in the 2019 Draft and has 49 goals and 139 points in his 180-game career.
This picture could confirm how Zegras was allegedly insulted by Verbeek’s offer…
What will come next in this stalemate? The Ducks will open their preseason on Sunday, with their first game of the regular calendar coming on Oct. 14 against the defending Stanley Cup champions Vegas Golden Knights.
