Trevor Zegras sparks outrage with hit on Michael Rasmussen.

Anaheim Ducks star forward Trevor Zegras has drawn the ire of fans after a questionable hit on Michael Rasmussen.

Anaheim Ducks star forward Trevor Zegras may very well be hearing from the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety on Monday, especially given the outrage we have seen in response to the rather questionable hit he delivered over the weekend.

On Sunday, Zegras and the Ducks faced off against the Detroit Red Wings and it would be in the final moments of the second period that Zegras would deliver an ugly looking hit to an unsuspecting Michael Rasmussen. The hit on Rasmussen would not only come late, but it would also clearly pick the head of Rasmussen which in turn would result in an injury to the Red Wings forward.

Rasmussen had just chipped the puck up the ice and was staring forward at the puck when Zegras would close in on Rasmussen from the side, arriving there several moments after the puck had already left Rasmussen's stick. This was one of those cases where there was no question about the principle point of contact either, with Rasmussen's head bouncing off of Zegras' shoulder in sickening fashion.

Here is a look at the replay of the incident:

Not only is the blow to the head dangerous in and of itself, but it appeared to have an almost whiplash-like effect on Rasmussen's neck and body and it wasn't surprising at all to see him retreat to the locker room after being a victim of this hit.

This hit looks very much like the exact kind of hit to the head the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has been trying to crack down on, and I can't imagine that Zegras will escape without a suspension for this one.
