The Vancouver Canucks have traded veteran defenseman Travis Hamonic to a Canadian rival.

According to a breaking news report from National Hockey League insider Darren Dreger, Hamonic will be headed to Ottawa where he will become the newest member of the Senators organization.

Hamonic made 24 appearances for the Canucks this season scoring 3 goals and recording 4 assists for a combined total of 7 points on the season. He currently has 6 penalty minutes to his name and boasts a plus minus rating of +1 on the season.

Update: We now know the return for the Canucks. According to Ottawa Senators insider Bruce Garrioch, the Canucks will be receiving a third round draft selection in exchange for Hamonic.

The pick is a third round selection in 2022 that was originally owned by the Vancouver Canucks.

Update: Rick Dhaliwal is reporting that Ottawa Senators associate coach Jack Capuano may have had a hand in making this trade a reality. According to Dhaliwal, Capuano "pushed hard" for Hamonic with Dhaliwal also adding that the Senators have reportedly been trying to acquire Hamonic for some time now.
