Ottawa Senators head coach Travis Green shares update on the injury to star goaltender Linus Ullmark.
Things have been going pretty darn well for the Ottawa Senators as of late with the Sens starting to look like a team that is putting the pieces together, perhaps even enough to transform themselves into a potential playoff contender after a rough start to the 2024-25 National Hockey League regular season.
That's why when goaltender Linus Ullmark left Sunday night's game against the Edmonton Oilers due to injury, many fans in Ottawa held their breath in anticipation for what could have been very bad news. The Sens would go on to confirm that Ullmark would not return to the game, while also confirming that he was indeed dealing with what the team described as an upper body injury.
Thankfully the initial update from Senators head coach Travis Green makes it seem as though this isn't too serious of a problem, and in fact Green's comments almost make it sound like more of a precautionary measure than anything else. When speaking to members of the media following the conclusion of last night's game, Green shared some more specifics about why Ullmark had left the game against the Oilers.
"His back tightened up so he felt it was best if he came out," said Green almost nonchalantly.
Green didn't have anything else to offer on the Ullmark front so only time will tell if this proves to be an issue that will cost him any additional time moving forward.
Ullmark has been a rock for the Senators this season and in many ways has served as a stabalizing presence between the pipes while the team in front of him has struggled. In spite of Ottawa's struggles Ullmark continues to look impressive this season with a 2.38 goals against average and a .915 save percentage over his 23 appearances this season, including last night's game.
