On Tuesday, the Minnesota Wild placed veteran defenseman Travis Dermott on waivers, and on Wednesday, he was back with a former team.

The Edmonton Oilers have claimed Dermott off the waiver wire after they had waived him back in December.

Dermott had gone without a point in 10 games with Edmonton prior to being waived. He is also without a point in nine games with the Wild this season.

He is a pending unrestricted free agent, carrying a cap hit of $775,000.

Selected in the second round by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015, Dermott has recorded a total of 16 goals and 62 points in 348 career games.

In other waivers news on Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins have placed veteran forward Matt Nieto on the wire.

Nieto is in the final season of a two-year contract with the Penguins. In 31 games for the Pens this season, Nieto has tallied just one goal and adding two assists.

If he is announced as unclaimed tomorrow, the team would be able to assign him to Wilkes-Barre of the American Hockey League.
