Trade brewing between Maple Leafs and Islanders!

Lou Lamoriello wants to work on a move with his former club.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders have both been out of action on the ice for several weeks now, but that has not stopped their respective general manager from working hard on the phones.

According to IB Gambler on X, formerly known as Twitter, who has shared some important reports in the past, the Leafs and the Islanders have had conversations about a significant move lately.

From the start of the offseason in Toronto, rumours have surrounded forward Mitch Marner, who continues to train and prepare to return with the Leafs for the final season of his contract. However, it has been reported that the Maple Leafs and general manager Brad Treliving are willing to listen to offers on Marner, who carries an AAV of $10.9 million and a full no-movement clause, meaning Toronto cannot trade or waive him without his permission. Marner has spent his entire NHL career with the Maple Leafs, posted 26 goals and 59 assists for a total of 85 points in 69 games in the 2023-24 season.

Toronto is focused on getting a top player on its blue line and could look to target that area in New York. However, it is a well-known fact around the NHL that Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello does his plans public to the media.

And so, for now, we know very little about what pieces could be included in such rumours on a move brewing between the Maple Leafs and the Islanders, but the speculation is enough to make us look into this and keep an eye out on that potential move, especially with the NHL Entry Draft taking place next Friday in Las Vegas.

Stay tuned.
