There’s some trade action here on a Friday night!

The Anaheim Ducks have acquired defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin from the Buffalo Sabres. In return, they are sending the 2025 4th round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft they originally received from the Minnesota Wild in the John Klingberg deal at last season’s Deadline:

After a handful of years playing with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the KHL back in his native Russia, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Coyotes. Eventually, he was dealt along with teammate Ryan Dzingel to the Toronto Maple Leafs in February of 2022 exchange for Nick Ritchie along with a conditional draft pick.

Last summer, he agreed to a two-year, $5.5 million contract with the Sabres, and scored two goals with 12 assists in 68 games played last season.

In 279 career NHL games, Lyubushkin has scored five goals with 34 assists. He still has one year remaining on his current contract with a cap hit of $2,750,000.
