As the Pittsburgh Penguins' executive staff and ownership group continue to identify and interview potential candidates for their vacant GM position, at least one candidate has removed himself from contention. According to a report from TSN insider Bob McKenzie, New York Rangers assistant GM Chris Drury has declined the Penguins' advances, informing the team that he's not interested in leaving the Rangers and New York City.

Interestingly enough, Montreal Canadiens assistant GM Scott Mellanby made a similar decision when the Penguins reached out to him for consideration. Still in the mix though is Penguins interim GM Patrik Allvin, New Jersey Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald, former Philadelphia Flyers GM and franchise icon Ron Hextall, former Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli and former Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis.
