Tomas Tatar linked to team in the Eastern Conference.
Veteran National Hockey League forward Tomas Tatar has been linked to one team by an NHL insider.
There are still a number of quality unrestricted free agents that remain unsigned in the National Hockey League and with NHL training camp now only days away the sand is starting to run out in the hourglass.
One of the most notable free agents still on the market is veteran forward Tomas Tatar, and on Monday NHL insider Elliotte Friedman addressed the status of the 32 year old Slovakian forward.
"One of the ones I'm really curious about is Tomas Tatar," admitted Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast. "Tomas Tatar has switched agents and he is now represented by Newport, that's a relatively recent development."
Friedman believes Tatar will be headed to a team somewhere in the East and specifically named the Pittsburgh Penguins as an interested party.
"Someone said to me they wouldn't be surprised to see him signed soon, we'll see," said Friedman. "I know Pittsburgh was a team that was interested but I believe the Penguins were not the only one. I thought it might be Pittsburgh, now I'm not convinced it's gonna be Pittsburgh. I've heard 'East' but I'm not so sure it's Pittsburgh."
Tatar is coming off of yet another 20 goal season (20 goals, 28 assists, 48 points) and was healthy all of last season appearing in all 82 games for the New Jersey Devils and that bodes well for the 32 year old winger moving forward.
There are no doubt a number of teams in the East that would be interested in adding another 20 goals of offense, and I definitely get the sense that this one will come down to a combination of the best offer in terms of financials, as well as the best fit for Tatar as a player.
