TNT slammed over “sham” ruining the Stanley Cup playoffs.

TNT broadcast slammed for messing up the most important games of the year.

There are a number of hockey fans that aren't very happy today after news broke regarding a practice employed by the TNT broadcast, one that has been frowned upon by fans since the start of the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Since the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs a number of games on the TNT broadcast have been called by commentators working remotely, that is to say not located at the venue where the game is taking place. Fans have been distraught over these decisions feeling that a remote broadcast fails to convey the emotion and the gravity of some of the biggest moments of the National Hockey League season.

Below you can see a comparison of two clips from the same moment, with one being called from a studio and the other being made on site with commentators in the building:

While TNT has faced considerable backlash over this practice in recent weeks, on Saturday that criticism reached a fever pitch when it was announced that tonight's game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators, a potential elimination game, would also be done remotely.

Toronto sports media insider Jonah of YYZ Sports Media called it a "concerning" development.

While Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News called the whole thing a "sham" and added that he was surprised the NHL itself wasn't kicking up more of a fuss over the most important games of the year.

Have the remote broadcasts hurt your ability to enjoy the Stanley Cup playoff games you have watched so far? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
