Young forward Tim Stutzle has cashed in big time in Ottawa. The Senators announced on Wednesday that Stutzle has agreed to an eight-year, $66.8 million extension contract extension. The deal carries a cap hit of $8.35 million, per insider Elliotte Friedman.
It was almost written in stone that the Senators were looking to sign Stutzle long-term. After all, they selected him third overall in the 2020 NHL Draft and has impressed in his two seasons in Ottawa. Following a 29-point rookie season, Stutzle put up 22 goals and 36 assists for 58 points in 79 games in 2020-21.
Things are looking better and better in Ottawa, especially since GM Pierre Dorion acquired forward Alex DeBrincat from the Chicago Blackhawks, signed forward Claude Giroux to a three-year contract and traded goaltender Matt Murray to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
This signing is another power move by Dorion and the Senators, who finished last season 33-42-7 for 73 points, good for second last in the Atlantic Division.
