You can tell that the NHL regular season is close at hand when the league's waiver wire becomes a tad bloated.

Earlier today NHL insider Chris Johnston reported that over 20 new players have been added to the waiver wire, with the Arizona Coyotes dropping eight players, the Philadelphia Flyers dropping five players, the Calgary Flames dropping four players, the Dallas Stars dropping four players and the Florida Panthers dropping three players.

Among the list are three former Toronto Maple Leafs players in Ryan McGregor, Adam Brooks, and Victor Mete.

Here's the full list:

Additionally, the Nashville Predators have claimed Samuel Fagemo from the Los Angeles Kings and the Pittsburgh Penguins have claimed Jansen Harkins from the Winnipeg Jets.

The 23 year old Fagemo was the final cut from the Kings' training camp and the team hoped that he would have cleared waivers so that he could join the AHL's Ontario Reign. Now, he'll get a chance to stick in the NHL with the Preds. In nine games with the Kings last season he put up two goals and three points. In 56 games with the AHL's Reign he put up 23 goals and 32 points.

As for Harkins, the 26 year old Cleveland, Ohio native was also a final cut in training camp, not quite making the Jets' main roster. He'll now get a shot as a 4th liner with the Penguins. He put up a whopping 25 goals and 50 points in just 44 games with the AHL's Manitoba Moose last season.
