The chatter is getting louder that Jesse Puljujarvi’s time in Edmonton is coming to an end. Earlier this month, the Oilers’ forward told reporter Tommi Seppälä that he isn’t sure if the National Hockey League is the place for him anymore. Holland attempted to trade Puljujarvi a few seasons ago when the young forward headed to Finland but he never got an offer.
However, now interested parties might feel they could get Puljujarvi for cheap seeing that he’s made it known Edmonton isn’t the place for him.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman revealed in his latest 32 Thoughts that three teams are reportedly in the mix to acquire Puljujarvi’s services. The Oilers could even have to include another asset in the deal following the young forward’s recent comments questioning his place in the NHL.
“At times, I’ve heard Anaheim, Carolina and Detroit have at least looked at it, but I don’t think anything’s ever been close to what the Oilers would consider. Right now, battling with injuries and for the playoffs, they don’t want to be shorthanded. But, when they get healthy, they’ll look at trade options or possibly even waivers. If it goes to the summer, I’d imagine Edmonton doesn’t qualify him and he signs elsewhere. Hope he finds inner peace well before then.”
Recent reports emerged that the Montreal Canadiens had attempted this summer to trade for Puljujarvi, but instead went with Sean Monster of the Calgary Flames.
GM Ken Holland never feels pressured to trade a player, but there is a first to everything and the Ducks, Hurricanes and Red Wings might take full advantage of it.
