Things continue to get worse for 1st round pick Matvei Michkov.

The Philadelphia Flyers first round pick is not having the best start to the KHL season.

The progress of Philadelphia Flyers first round pick Matvei Michkov has been a topic of interest for many in the National Hockey League this summer, especially considering that Michkov was one of the most talked about prospects leading up to this year's National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Unfortunately for Michkov and the Flyers, there hasn't been much good news on that front just yet. Over the past two weeks I've brought you reports on comments from a former NHL scout who had a very harsh initial assessment of Michkov and who doubled down on the assessment the following week.

It would seem that head coach of CSKA Moscow Sergei Fedorov agrees with at least some of those criticisms as he made the surprising decision to leave Michkov in the press box for the season opener this week. Michkov was made a healthy scratch to start the season and making matters even worse is that veteran NHL forward Alex Galchenyuk was inserted into the team's top line after an ugly incident this summer cost him his spot in the NHL.

In spite of his harsh criticism of Michkov leading into the season opener, former NHL scout Grant McCagg expressed his concerns with how this could impact the develop of the young Flyers forward.

"I don't think the "Wright Treatment" is the way to go with his development," stated McCagg following the healthy scratch. "Sitting in the stands won't help him. The kid has got to play.... somewhere."

Whether or not we will see Michkov loaned to a team where he can get more ice time remains to be seen.
