Watch out Deadpool. There are reported that another movie superstar is attached to a bid to purchase the Ottawa Senators, as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is reportedly involved with one of the prospective buyers, per the “Coming in Hot podcast with Brent Wallace, Jason York and Bobby Ryan.

With the Neko Sparks group, I’m told that their big celebrity is… Dwayne Johnson. The Rock is apparently involved with the Neko Sparks group,” former TSN host Brent Wallace reported Thursday.

“One of the biggest, well-known people on the planet could possibly be a part of the face of your franchise. I think that’s a pretty big deal, and I think the Neko Sparks group has him in their corner.”

Last month, it was announced that movie superstar Ryan Reynolds had partnered with a real estate development group from the Toronto area, The Remington Group, based in Vaughan, Ont., in a bid to buy the Ottawa Senators.

The race for the purchase of the Senators remains a tight endeavour. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman stated at the All-Star Game that at least 15 groups have filed applications to bid on the Canadian team.

It now reportedly includes not just movie star Ryan Reynolds, who recently sold his Mint Mobile company to T-Mobile for $1.35 Billion. The Rock may now look to cross over into the hockey world amid the Senators Sports & Entertainment’s sale.

“Ryan Reynolds and The Rock are very close friends, from what I understand,” Wallace said. “They’ve done a movie together called ‘Red Notice.’ They’ve done a few social media posts together if I’m not mistaken. I believe that may help sway possibly Ryan Reynolds [to] joining that group if Neko Sparks was to get the team.”

In early 2022, team owner Eugene Melnyk died and left his daughters, Anna, 23, and Olivia, 20, in charge. The sisters have retained Galatioto Sports Partners as financial advisors in the process of selling the club.

At the GMs meeting last week, Bettman stated that “ it’s a matter of weeks before Sens are sold.”

Let’s keep an eye on this.
