The Rangers aren’t done making moves despite reacquisition of J.T. Miller
Watch out, general manager Chris Drury has another one up his sleeves. More details below:
Rangers general manager Chris Drury has found success in his reacquisition of J.T. Miller and is looking to make more moves for New York ahead of the March 7 trade deadline.
According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, Drury keeps working the phone with more than $16 million in projected deadline cap space in his pockets.
Brooks has previously revealed how the Rangers are looking to add a third-line center to their roster, but it sounds like Drury will be careful on the cost. It will all depend how where New York stands agead of the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off and the lead-up to the trade deadline.
While Drury is willing to make moves “of the short-term variety”, he refuses to make a rental deal if his team is not qualified for the postseason.
“I think the Rangers are going to be looking for a third-line center, and there are probably some available … but what’s the cost? … I don’t think they’re going to want to do very many rental deals in order to try and get into 8th place,” said Brooks.
On top of that, the insider is adamant that the Rangers will not part with promising young winger Brennan Othmann just for the sake of adding experience and a short-term solution to his lineup. He will not become trade bait in New York’s possible moves prior to March 7.
