The Bruins are furious with Team USA following 4-nations tournament!
How will the team react if another tournament calls for their best players? More to the story down below:
The Boston Bruins are upset with Team USA. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman has reported that the Bruins are furious with how the American team handled defenseman Charlie McAvoy’s shoulder injury at the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament.
McAvoy, who was admitted earlier this week to Massachusetts General Hospital to cut out and clean an infection and did not play in the championship game on Thursday. He has since been released from the hospital, but the Bruins remained upset with decisions surrounding the health of their star blue liner.
“It became pretty clear it’s because the Bruins were extremely unhappy with the way this had been handled and that they felt in this particular case McAvoy didn’t get the proper care,” Friedman said.
“We’ll see how this plays out over time and we’ll see if anybody disputes this, but it seems to me right now that Boston’s very upset at the care that McAvoy got under Team USA.”
The Bruins’ star defenseman was injured in the Americans’ opener against Finland, but went on to play in their second game against Canada. He was then hospitalized to undergo a procedure to clean out an infection in his shoulder, and the Bruins announced Thursday their star defenseman is dealing with a significant injury to his AC joint.
Frank Seravalli has since reported that McAvoy is expected to be sidelined on a week-to-week basis until the area can heal, though the Bruins have yet to offer a precise timetable for his return to action.
McAvoy went without a point in the 4 Nations Face-Off, but logged 19:45 of ice time in the American’s opening win over Finland and 19:27 of ice time in their win over Team Canada. He was in the Americans’ dressing room to announce the starting lineup against Canada last night and was visibly emotional about missing the final.
For Boston, McAvoy has recorded 23 points in 50 games and leads the club in ice time, averaging 23:40 per contest.
The Bruins, who will return from the 4 Nations break one point back of a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, are now forced to be without McAvoy for the most crucial time of the calendar.
