Tempers flare early in 1st period between Sens and Pens.

Things turn ugly between the Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins just minutes into the game.

Jonathan Larivee

Barely 7 minutes had expired off the game clock in Saturday's game between the Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins, but that was plenty enough time for those two teams to rub one another the wrong way.

It would be Penguins forward Michael Bunting who would get things started with a hit he delivered near center ice, a hit that prompted a response from Senators forward Nick Cousins. In spite of the fact that Bunting had lost his helmet following the hit and was headed off the ice, Cousins would tackle Bunting to the ice which would in turn lead to a larger scuffle on the ice between these two teams.

Bunting would once again be knocked to the ice in the chaos that ensued but in the end it was he and Cousins that threw the meaningful blows during the larger scuffle, with both men throwing shots that had some ill intent behind them. After a few punches were exchanged the two men would crash to the ice and it looked as though Bunting may have continued to throw a few shots in Cousins' direction before the officials on the ice could separate them.

Here's a look at the replay of the incident:

As you can see from the replay, Bunting and Cousins were the only two players who genuinely engaged despite a great deal of posturing from the other players on the ice.
