TEAM CANADA: “5 players” will face NHL suspensions for involvement in the 2018 sexual assault scandal

Earliert this summer, insider Frank Seravalli provided an important update on the investigation into the 2018 World Juniors scandal that has rocked Hockey Canada to its very foundations. On July 10th, Frank Seravalli revealed his belief that the results of that investigation are about to be revealed, and furthermore his belief that players currently in the NHL will be suspended as a result of that very same investigation.

On Tuesday, a new update came from Andy Strickland on Cam and Strick who reports that it’s likely “5 players” will be facing NHL suspensions for their involvement in the 2018 WJC sexual assault scandal.

He even added that he knows the names but won’t say them now, though he did mention there were some significant ones.

Back in May, news broke that Hockey Canada quietly settled a lawsuit filed by a woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted by eight unnamed players, including several members of the country’s 2018 world junior team, following a gala in London, Ontario. Many players then made statements that they weren’t involved, but others have yet to comment. . St. Louis Blues forwards Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou, who were members of the 2018 world junior team, released separate statements on social media, claiming they had no involvement in the alleged incident. The agency representing Carter Hart, Jake Bean, Kale Clague, Colton Point, and Taylor Raddysh released a statement denying any involvement in the incident on behalf of the players.Four other players from that Canadian championship team — Cale Makar, Victor Mete, Conor Timmins, Sam Steel and Jonah Gadjovich — have also publicly stated they weren’t involved.

Ottawa Senators’ Drake Batherson and free agent Alex Formenton were trending because they never made a statement. Formenton failed to come to an agreement with the Senators before the Dec.1 st deadline and did not play the NHL for the remainder of the season. Some pundits wondered if the contract stalemate was linked to his potential involvement in the 2018 WJC sex scandal.

*TO BE CLEAR: We are not saying Batherson and Formenton are involved in the ongoing Hockey Canada sexual assault allegations.*

The players were not identified in court documents. But it looks like we will soon know the names linked to the upcoming suspensions.
