On Wednesday morning, it was confirmed that the NHL lottery draft will take place on Monday May 8th. As of now, the Columbus Blue Jackets have the best odds to win the lottery - and therefore, the Connor Bedard sweepstakes. The Arizona Coyotes also have good chances to land the generational prospect.

Though the San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks and Montreal Canadiens have better odds, however, some fans started to see a suspicious coincidence between the date of the draft lottery and what’s happening around the same time in Tempe, Arizona.

They are especially suspicious of it because we all know NHL commissioner Gary Bettman’s well-documented love for the Coyotes despite the poor market and their smallest arena in NHL history.

Fans noted: “Draft lottery is May 8th. Tempe election is May 16th. That’s not a coincidence.” Quickly, some comments that if Bedard ends up in the desert, there will be a riot.

Bedard continues to lead the Western Hockey League with 125 points (61 goals, 64 assists) in 51 games. Like many teams at the bottom of the standings, the Coyotes’ primary goal is now landing projected No. 1 pick Bedard in the draft lottery.

We get why, the kid is amazing. But how bad would it be for the young phenom to end up in Arizona with one reporter and 5000 fans watching when the rest of the world wants more of Bedard.

Yeah… we riot if Bettman finds a way for the Coyotes to win the draft lottery on May 8th.
