Surprising admission from projected No. 1 overall pick Connor Bedard

There are more than one reasons why Connor Bedard is projected to go first overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. The guy is insanely talented on the ice as he’s shown during his record-setting performance at this year’s World Juniors, and also throughout the WHL season, leading the league with 125 points in just 51 games with the Regina Pats. Bedard was the first player to earn exceptional status in the WHL after scoring 43 goals and 84 points in 36 games for West Van Academy Prep’s U18 team, leading the Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) in scoring and earning MVP honours as a 14 year old.

His mother Melanie recently revealed another reason why her son might be in such great shape to Mike G. Morreale of NHL.com when he explained that Bedard has never eaten fast-food, or at McDonald’s, or any other fast food chain.

“He’s never had fast food… he will at some point, but he hasn’t eaten at McDonald’s or anything yet,” Melanie said. “I think we all know when we eat well, how you feel, and then when we kind of go off the rails. I think he’s just aware of that feeling. On game days, he’ll eat chicken, rice, vegetable, shrimp, mashed yams, chicken, salmon. It’s kind of a rotation.”

Melanie revealed more about his son’s diet, which she can keep a close eye on as Bedard does not live with a billet family, but with his mother as he prepares for his pro hockey career.

She gets to see him play and shine on any stage, and will be in the front seats of the first round of the NHL Draft is set on June 23.

“I’m so proud of him, especially when he’s wearing that Canada jersey because we’ve watched that tournament since Connor was a baby and when he was growing up,” she said. “So those feelings of pride when he’s wearing it, whether they win or lose, are proud moments as a hockey parent. But it’s probably a lot more stress than I would have imagined.”

Maybe he’ll get to celebrate with a Big Mac!
