It really doesn't take a whole lot to get Toronto Maple Leafs super fan Steve Dangle this fired up, but he was in a completely different element following the events that transpired on the ice following their game against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden.
By now, you've seen the replay of notorious pest and Bruins captain Brad Marchand's infraction (that went uncalled) against Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren that resulted in the latter suffering a high ankle sprain. Not a single Leafs player came to their defenseman's defense and challenged Marchand, say for a few unsavory words being thrown in Marchand's direction from the bench.
Of course, the shot of the bench also captured Leafs forward Tyler Bertuzzi with a big grin on his face as he watched his brief former teammate Marchand skate by. And for Steve Dangle, that was the last straw.
"Tyler - pretty funny, huh? Get off the Toronto Maple Leafs!" he exclaimed with the trademarks shrill in his voice. "10 points in seven games, all you were able to get is a $5 million, one year deal? I wonder why? What at teammate! What knee slapper was going on there on the ice? You just got demoted to the 4th line! You just got benched for Noah Gregor? Calle Jarnkrok is on the 1st line!
The Leafs have a long history of getting hard-nosed players who had success in Boston, and who Boston wasn't able to keep. The last guy was Nick Ritchie, and you're having the same career path and trajectory! You're spending money every time you take the ice. And I know the guy isn't 100%, they need to stop dressing him. Because that's not a useful player the way he's playing right now, and this is the kind of teammate that he is so far. You're not on the Bruins anymore, Tyler. Sheldon benched you after this, and he was right!"
