Dallas Stars owner Tom Gaglardi has gone viral in the past, especially when he called out star players Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn for not doing enough for the club.
On Tuesday, Gaglardi made headlines again, this time when he was a guest on the Cam and Strick podcast and revealed a bit on his financial management and how contracts have changed in Dallas. And once again, it sounds like he was taking a shot at his star players.
He explained how he isn’t a fan of paying kids out of entry level big money, adding that veteran players are getting squeezed because star players are being paid all the money.
“The guys who can put the puck in the net are getting too big a piece of the pie.”
Last month, Gaglardi pointed his finger directly at both Benn and Seguin saying point blank that the pair have been “underperforming offensively.” But as you know and going back to what Gaglardi said on Tuesday, Seguin is signed for five more seasons at $9.85 million and Benn is signed for three more seasons at $9.5 million.
This reminded everyone on how a couple of seasons ago, Stars CEO Jim Lites said, “They are fucking horseshit, I don’t know how else to put it,” when asked about his two star players. Today Gagliardi didn’t go quite that far, but it’s fair to say that he did throw Benn and Seguin under the bus.
With Gaglardi’s latest comments, you have to feel that the heat is on Seguin and Benn to perform and prove that they are worth the money they put in their pockets.
