Silly mistake by Connor Bedard caught live right before his first NHL game!
He probably felt quite nervous…

The Connor Bedard era has begun. On Tuesday night, the first overall pick went from the best prospect in the world to one of the NHL’s biggest stars as he made his NHL debut when his Chicago Blackhawks faced the Penguins in Pittsburgh. It was almost surreal to see him take the game’s opening faceoff in front of captain Sidney Crosby.
We totally understand if the kid was nervous (by the kid, I mean the 18-year-old Bedard, and not Sid). Right before puck drop, the Blackhawks had their top prospect make his rookie lap on the ice, however, as the camera followed his every move and caught Bedard making a silly mistake. He had forgotten his stick and had to head back in the dressing room in order to grab it for his official first lap on NHL ice.
However, the jitters were gone once the game started. Bedard’s first NHL period, featured 7 shot attempts, 3 shots on goal and 4 scoring chances. He then collected his first point, a secondary assist, on Ryan Donato’s first goal as a Blackhawks.
In a 4-2 with for Chicago, Bedard played 21 minutes and 29 seconds, registered five shots on goals. He struggled in the face off circles, only winning two of 13 attempts.
Bedard was on the ice for Crosby’s goal, but ended the night with a +0 rating.
Welcome the NHL, kid!
