Shayne Gostisbehere saves Red Wings season with epic leap

While there has been plenty to be desired about the defensive part of his game throughout his National Hockey League career, defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere came through during last night with one of the biggest plays of his life. 

Let's set the scene for you. It's late in the 3rd period, and the Detroit Red Wings have battled back from what was a 4-1 deficit to cut the Montreal Canadiens' lead to 4-3. They're pressing for the tying goal, and after a nerve-wracking goalmouth scramble, Joel Armia seemingly cleared the puck out of the offensive zone.

However, it was Gostisbehere who made an incredible leap of faith, jumping high to grab the puck and keep Detroit's offensive zone attack alive. Moments later, Raymond beat goaltender Sam Montembault glove side to knot the score: 

Gostisbehere is playing in his first season with the Red Wings after being inked to a free-agent deal by general manager Steve Yzerman last summer. He's played a major role on Detroit's power play, and has scored 10 goals with 44 assists, his highest point total since 2016-17.
