Serious update in Milan Lucic’s abuse case
Not great news for Lucic himself and the Bruins.

On Friday, Boston Bruins winger Milan Lucichad a zoom hearing for his pre-trial hearing to determine whether or not he would go to trial over a dispute involving his wife that took placed in November. Lucic’s wife, Brittany, did not drop the domestic charges against her husband and now the domestic abuse case will go to trial on Feb. 16.
As you may recall, Lucic was arrested on Nov. 19 after his wife contacted Boston Police to report a domestic incident. Police reports obtained by The Boston Globe indicate that the winger became agitated and eventually physical when he couldn’t find his cell phone after returning home from what appeared to be a night of drinking. Brittany explained that there was an argument as he, according to the police report: “Began yelling at her, demanding his phone back, believing she had hidden the phone.”
“He then “grabbed her by the hair and pulled her backwards,” the report also stated.
“She stated that in doing so, the suspect stated to her that she was not going anywhere,” police wrote.
The report also indicated that Lucic appeared intoxicated. The police decided to arrest Lucic, and when they did, he was cooperative. He then appeared (in person) in court on Nov. 22 and pleaded not guilty.
Following the incident and the first legal proceedings, Lucic entered the NHL’s Player Assistance program for substance abuse. He remains on the Bruins books under LTIR for the time being, there is a sense that the Bruins are likely to terminate his contract after he exits the program.
I’m also guessing the update in his abuse case is not helping his future in Boston, or in the NHL.
Lucic signed a one year deal with the Bruins this past offseason, thought by many to be the final destination of his long NHL career.
The concern remains for Mrs. Lucic and the couple’s two daughters as captain Brad Marchand made the statement earlier this season upon his teammate’s arrest:
“The biggest thing for us is we care a lot about their family,” Marchand said. “We’re a family in here. We’re all very, very close, so we’re also very concerned, you know, and upset for them and what they’re going through. We have a lot of support for Brittany (Lucic’s wife) and the kids and Lucic himself. Because of that respect for them, you know, that’s going to be it for now.”
No comments from the Bruins have been made at this time following his pre-hearing on Friday.
