A surprising deal for the 25 year old after just 11 games with the Sens.

This just in, the Ottawa Senators have signed forward Mathieu Joseph to a four year contract worth $11.8 million. The new deal comes with a $2.95 million cap hit.
Joseph was acquired by the Senators in a deadline deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning that featured Nick Paul heading to Tampa. The 25 year old Joseph put up an impressive four goals and 12 points in 11 games with the Sens following the trade. Prior to that though, he had just 18 points in 58 games on the season with the Lightning.
"Mathieu's addition made an immediate positive impact as someone who fit in well with our group," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "He has high-end speed, a nose for the net and is responsible in his own end. He's long demonstrated good upside and is someone we're counting on to have another solid season both in 2022-23 and beyond."
Any way you look at it, this is the Sens betting that Joseph will continue his upward trajectory and outperforming his salary over the next four season. Will it work out? We'll see but personally I love seeing the Sens take a chance and spend some money after years and years of shedding salary every offseason.
