Sens confirm Linus Ullmark injury is much more serious.

Senators confirm on Sunday that star goaltender Linus Ullmark is going to be out for a while.

The Ottawa Senators are going to be without the services of goaltender Linus Ullmark for the foreseeable future.

On Sunday, the Senators confirmed that Ullmark's injury was much more serious than originally reported when they announced that Ullmark was now being considered week to week with what the team has described as an upper body injury. That is likely a sign that Ullmark will remain out for several more games before he can return to action, although week to week is vague enough that it would be difficult to pin down a timeline for his return.

Additionally the Senators confirmed that veteran defenseman Travis Hamonic would be out for two to four weeks due to an injury of his own.

Ullmark last saw action before the National Hockey League's holiday break when he briefly appeared in a December 22nd game against the Edmonton Oilers. Ullmark would take himself out of that game after nothing truly notable had appeared to occur, with Senators head coach Travis Green downplaying the severity of the situation at the time.

"His back tightened up so he felt it was best if he came out," said Green at the time.

Ullmark has been very solid for the Senators this season in goal so this will prove to be a huge loss for the team as long as he remains sidelined due to injury. Over his 23 appearances for the Senators this season Ullmark has a 2.38 goals against average and a .915 save percentage, and perhaps more importantly Ullmark has been a steadying presence in the net even when the team in front of him hasn't always played particularly well.

The Senators have posted a record of 1 win and 3 losses since Ullmark went down as a result of the injury, 1 win and 4 losses if you count the game against the Oilers that saw Ullmark make an early exit, and no doubt the Senators and their fans are hoping he can return sooner rather than later.
