Senators swap goalies 4 times in a single game.
The Ottawa Senators made liberal use of their goaltending swaps on Sunday night, doing so a total of 4 times.
One of the more bizarre situations I've seen when it comes to goaltenders in the National Hockey League played out before our very eyes on Sunday night, and as of right now it still isn't entirely clear as to why.
The Ottawa Senators were facing off against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday and during the second period, fans in attendance at Ball Arena were forced to be very patient as the Senators made a series of rather unusual goalie swaps.
It began with goaltender Anton Forsberg, who started the game for the Senators, having to come off the ice due to an issue with his skate blade, resulting in Linus Ullmark taking his place in net. Now that in and of itself isn't too unusual, but what happened after the fact certainly was.
Forsberg would return to the ice after getting his skate blade worked on, initiating the second goalie swap of the night, but would only remain on the ice for just over a minute before leaving once again. This would force Ullmark back out onto the ice for the second time, the third goalie swap, but that would also be relatively short lived.
The Senators would make yet another goalie swap moments later, returning Forsberg back out onto the ice for their fourth goalie swap of the period. Several prominent figures in the hockey community, including NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, were stunned at the display of goalie swaps from the Senators.
The broadcast crew was also in disbelief, clearly poking fun at the Senators for swapping goaltenders so many times as they recapped the entire bizarre scenario.
Not something I have witnessed before, and quite frankly not something I hope to see repeated too often in the NHL.
