Sam Rosen sends heartbreaking message to the Rangers locker room.
The play by play voice of the New York Rangers makes a heartbreaking confession on Saturday.
If this can't get you fired up to go out there and play your heart out, I'd be willing to bet that nothing will.
Legendary play by play caster Sam Rosen is an American sports icon and the long time voice of the New York Rangers, a beloved voice that sadly the Rangers will lose at the end of this season. Rosen announced earlier this year that this would be his last as the voice of the New York Rangers, a well deserved rest for Rosen to be sure but an announcement that was received with heartbreak by a fan base that has come to truly love and respect Rosen's work in the broadcast booth.
Unfortunately for Rosen much of this Rangers season has been a forgettable one and on Saturday the long time voice of the Rangers admitted that he was hoping for a different outcome. While he can only call the games from the broadcast booth, Rosen admitted that he was doing his all to try and will the Rangers into the Stanley Cup playoffs.
"Every game I look forward to. I look forward to every game now til the end of the season. I'm trying to drag this team into the playoffs with me. I walk around the locker room at practice giving them encouragement, 'Come on guys! You can do it!"
While it's great to see Rosen still cheering on his favorite team, the team he grew up cheering for as a young man, there is also a heartbreaking side to his comments. In what will be Rosen's final season in the broadcast booth, it would be terribly underwhelming for the Rangers to allow themselves to fall out of playoff contention.
Rosen acknowledges that the team hasn't been listening to him as of late.
"They're not listening to me," admitted Rosen. "But hopefully that'll change in the next couple of weeks."
Many players on the Rangers roster will have Rosen's voice playing over their career highlights when it is all said and done, and I have no doubt that many fans in New York feel now is their time to give back to the legendary Rangers broadcaster by making one final push for the playoffs in the final stretch of the regular season.
