Ryan Strome was hoping for a return with the New York Rangers.
“My heart is here,” Strome said during the Rangers’ breakup day at the MSG Training Center in June. “I think the last four years, I’ve tried to pour everything into this thing, on and off the ice, as much as I could. Whatever happens, happens. I can’t predict the future.”
The future he was referring to was a new deal, but it did not happen with the Rangers. The new chapter took place on Wednesday when Strome signed a five-year contract through 2026-27 with the Anaheim Ducks. The deal comes with a $5 million AAV, per insider Frank Seravalli.
Strome is coming off a 22 goal and 54 point season. Originally selected by the New York Islanders in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft, Strome appeared 621 career NHL games with the New York Rangers (2018-22), Edmonton Oilers (2017-18) and New York Islanders (2013-17).
This is a new chapter for the oldest of the Strome brothers as we await to see where bother Dylan will sign. Could the Ducks look to reunite the brother in Anaheim?
Dylan is coming off a 22 goal and 48 point campaign, making both brothers 20-goal scorers which is impressive. Maybe playing together could even spark them to score even more thanks to that brotherly-chemistry.
