Last month, it was announced that movie superstar Ryan Reynolds had partnered with a real estate development group from the Toronto area, The Remington Group, based in Vaughan, Ont., in a bid to buy the Ottawa Senators.

However, the race for the purchase of the Senators remains tight, especially with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman stating at the All-Star Game that at least 15 groups have filed applications to bid on the Canadian team.

But on Wednesday, Reynolds pulled a significant move that could help him massively in having the edge to buy the Senators. According to Bloomberg, Reynolds' Mint Mobile has been bought by T-Mobile for $1.35 Billion. Reynolds will continue to make commercial appearances on the company’s behalf, but will also have more cash in his pockets, just in time to make a move on the Senators.

In early 2022, team owner Eugene Melnyk died and left his daughters, Anna, 23, and Olivia, 20, in charge. The sisters have retained Galatioto Sports Partners as financial advisors in the process of selling the club.

At the GMs meeting on Wednesday, Bettman stated that “ it’s a matter of weeks before Sens are sold”, per Sportsnet’s Eric Engels.
